If you’re working with multiple camera angles for your podcast or video production, using Adobe Premiere Pro’s Multicam Editing feature can make your editing process significantly more efficient.
Step 1: Import Your Media
Before you start, make sure all your video and audio files are imported into Premiere Pro.
- Open Premiere Pro and create a new project (or open an existing one).
- Import all the video and audio files needed for your multi-cam sequence.
Step 2: Create a New Bin
A bin acts like a folder to organize your media.
- In the Project Panel, click the New Bin button (or right-click and select New Bin).
- Drag and drop all the video and audio files for the sequence into this bin.
Step 3: Create the Multi-Cam Source Sequence
Now, it’s time to let Premiere Pro automatically sync your clips.
- Right-click the bin containing your footage.
- Scroll down and select Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence.
- In the settings window that appears, set Sync to Audio.
- This tells Premiere Pro to use the audio waveforms to align all clips correctly.
- Click OK, and let Premiere Pro process the sequence.
- This might take a few minutes, depending on your footage size, how long the video is, and how fast your computer’s processor runs.
Step 4: Locate Your Multi-Cam Sequence
Once Premiere Pro finishes processing:
- Your Project Panel will now contain two types of files:
- The original video clips- Labelled as “Processed Clips”
- The newly created Multi-Cam Sequence
Drag the Multi-Cam Sequence to the Timeline.
Step 5: Enable Multi-Cam Editing Mode
To easily switch between different angles while editing:
- Open the Program Monitor.
- Click the wrench icon (Settings) in the Program Monitor.
- Select Multi-Camera from the dropdown menu.
- Now, you should see all your camera angles displayed in a grid.
OR: You can simply double click on the video bar on your timeline and it should open automatically.
Step 6: Edit Your Multi-Cam Footage
Editing multi-cam footage in Premiere Pro is as simple as clicking between camera angles:
- Play the timeline, and while watching the Multi-Camera Monitor, click on the camera angle you want to switch to.
- Premiere Pro will cut to that camera angle in real time.
- You can manually refine cuts by adjusting them in the timeline.
Step 7: Final Adjustments and Export
Once you’re happy with your edit:
- Fine-tune the cuts by trimming unnecessary parts.
- Adjust audio levels if needed.
- Export your final sequence using File > Export > Media.
