Guidelines For Your Editor

At Hello Studios, we want to make your podcasting journey as easy as possible. Whether you choose to have our expert team handle your editing or bring in an outside editor, we’ve got you covered. To ensure a smooth editing process, we’ve compiled this quick FAQ guide for outside editors working with files recorded at our studio.

Video Files: What You Need to Know

Recording Settings & Quality

During pre-production, we optimize our video settings based on lighting conditions and studio setup. Here’s what to expect:

  • Frame Rate: 1/60
  • F-Stop: Higher than 5
  • ISO: 200-1000 (varies depending on lighting, time of day, and subjects)

Our goal is to maintain flexibility in our settings to capture the best-looking footage possible.

File Size & Storage Considerations

All of our videos are recorded in 4K resolution, which means larger-than-average file sizes—typically ranging between 30GB to 50GB per file. If you’re downloading these files, please ensure:

  • Adequate storage space on your device or external drive
  • A strong and consistent WiFi connection to avoid interruptions in downloading, which can result in corrupted files

Multi-Camera Setups & Audio Syncing

If your package includes multiple camera angles, note that only one video file will have backup audio already synced. This is not meant for final use but is included to make multi-cam video and audio syncing easier in post-production.

Audio Files: Formats & Editing Considerations

Recording Format

Our audio mixers record high-quality .wav files with the following specifications:

  • Bit Depth: 24-bit
  • Sample Rate: 4800 Hz

This ensures that your podcast audio maintains professional-grade clarity and depth.

Segmented Audio Files

Depending on the recording duration and settings, the audio files will be broken into segments:

  • Single Track (Default):
    • If a session runs longer than 30 minutes, the file will be split into multiple parts (e.g., a 60-minute session results in two files).
  • Multitrack Recording:
    • Rodecaster Pro Mixer splits files into 20-minute segments.
    • Mackie DLZ Mixer splits files into 17-minute segments.

Syncing Audio & Video

We provide raw, unsynced audio and video files to all our clients. If you have multiple camera angles, you’ll need advanced editing software to sync and edit these files properly.

Final Thoughts

Editing a podcast, especially when working with high-quality multi-camera and multitrack audio setups, requires preparation. Whether you’re an in-house or outside editor, understanding file formats, storage requirements, and the best practices for syncing will save you time and ensure a polished final product.
