In this special feature, we had the chance to sit down with them and dive into their podcasting journey. We asked the burning questions about how they got started, the challenges they faced, and where they’re headed next.

The Beginnings:
Dalton Smith forms one half of the dynamic duo behind the Step Brothers Podcast. Beginning in 2017, the podcast was initially centered around their shared passion for the music industry, Dalton and his partner Kris Minor decided to expand their podcast’s horizon. What began as a music-focused journey quickly transformed into much more including discussions about their personal lives, what’s happening in the real-world, sports, and a whole lot more!
Step Brothers Podcast began when the duo was living together (and no they aren’t actually step brothers). Their inspiration took full force as Dalton explains, “We would talk about the wildest things, so I was like man we got to record this!”
However, the podcast quickly transcended from just discussing music, expanding into a space where Dalton, a dad, and Kris, navigating single life, engage in candid conversations about their lives, experiences, and whatever sparks their interest. Dalton explained, “It’s two best friends just chopping it up, usually with a guest.”
The show has become a dynamic blend of entertainment, touching on everything from sports and real-world happenings to the nuances of fatherhood and single life.
Dalton then took us on a journey through the podcast’s physical evolution—from recording on a couch to having a private office space and eventually finding a home at Hello Studios. The move to Hello Studios not only streamlined their recording process but also catered to Dalton’s role as a parent, providing a more conducive environment for their lively discussions.
Tips for Aspiring Podcasters:
When asked to give advice to beginning podcasters, Dalton emphasized the importance of investing time to make the audio quality top-notch. He encouraged podcasters to not overlook the audio aspect, even when on a budget. Additionally, he highlighted the significance of consistent social media engagement and the ongoing nature of podcasting. “It’s an ongoing process. Don’t just post it and forget about it; you’ve got to keep doing it,” Dalton advised.
The Future of the Step Brothers Podcast:
Step Brothers Podcast has teamed up with DadGang Hats and will be launching a merchandise store. “Videos are going to be a little different soon—bigger and better for us, for sure,” he teased, leaving listeners eagerly anticipating the evolution of Step Brothers Podcast.
